Muhondo’s commitment reaches beyond coffee: the stations provide jobs for women and young people and support local farmers with equipment, microfinance, and clean water. Quality has been recognised internationally — Muhondo won Rwanda’s Cup of Excellence in 2014 and placed 3rd in 2015.
Process
Natural / Dry Processed. Only ripe cherries are hand-selected and then floated in clean water to remove defects. Cherries are sun-dried on raised African beds for 45–70 days, turned regularly and hand-picked to ensure even drying and prevent over-fermentation. As moisture leaves the fruit, sugars concentrate and infuse the beans — the source of that jammy sweetness and chocolatey depth.
How Best to Enjoy
We offer whole beans only — grind fresh for the best cup. This coffee sings as a V60 or Chemex (clear, sweet, and aromatic). It also makes a cracking espresso if you like a fruit-forward shot with chocolate notes. For cafetière, go a touch coarser and let it cool a minute before pouring for a rounder cup. Starting Brew Guide (V60)
- 18g coffee · 300g water (94–96°C)
- Grind: medium-fine (table salt)
- Bloom 40g for 35–45s, then pulse pours to 300g by 2:15–2:30
- Total time: ~3:00–3:15
Why This Is Special
- Cup of Excellence pedigree (winner 2014; 3rd in 2015)
- High-altitude Bourbon grown in rich volcanic soils
- Natural process for layered fruit, chocolate, and vanilla
- Supports thousands of smallholder farmers and local community projects
