How to Brew the Perfect Cup: V60 Coffee Maker Method

Introduction

When it comes to brewing a cracking cup of coffee, the V60 coffee maker is the connoisseur’s choice. Far from needing a degree in rocket science, this method has the power to transform your morning routine with nothing but hot water, gravity, and a bit of patience. Let’s face it; if you can boil an egg, you can make coffee with a V60. Here’s how you can create an exceptional cup of V60 coffee right in your own Plumstead kitchen.

Step by Step Guide

Step 1: Gather Your Gear

First off, you’ll need to assemble your coffee-making contraption. You’ll need a V60 dripper, paper filters, a kettle, and some top-notch, freshly roasted beans—preferably from Vendum.co, but we’re not biased (much). It doesn’t hurt to have a grinder and a kitchen scale handy, but let’s not go overboard.

Step 2: Prepping the Grounds

Grind your beans to a consistency that’s somewhere between fine sand and the stuff you found in your shoe after that beach holiday. This ensures the right flow of water through the coffee, extracting just the right amount of flavour without any bitterness. Aim for about 15-20 grams of coffee for a single cup; it’s not rocket science, but it’s close.

Step 3: Getting Ready

Place the paper filter into the V60 dripper and give it a good rinse with hot water. This clever little trick removes that papery taste and pre-warms your brewing equipment. Pop the dripper on top of your mug (or carafe if you’re feeling fancy), and add the coffee grounds.

Step 4: It’s Brew Time

Bring your water to a near boil, about 200°F or 93°C if you’re being precise. Slowly pour just enough water to wet all the coffee grounds. This is called blooming. It’s not quite a botanical wonder, but it does help release gases from the coffee, enhancing the flavor. Hold your horses for about 30 seconds.

Step 5: The Real Deal

After the bloom, slowly continue pouring in a circular motion, maintaining a steady and gentle flow to keep things even. This should take around two and a half to three minutes. The aim is to keep the grounds lightly dancing in the water, which is more poetic than it sounds.

Step 6: Enjoy!

And there you have it—fresh V60 coffee, right in your own home. For an added edge, sip your coffee while reading up on the latest coffee trends or plotting your next trip to Vendum.co (we’d love to see you).
